3 Days of workshops with Mohamed El Hosseny

Friday August 6th

Dance to the music of the Diva Umm Kulthoum

More than three decades after her death, she is still recognized as one of the Arab world's most famous and distinguished singers of the 20th century! Not just anyone can work with her music! Mohamed El Hosseny will review her music "interprete it" and make it managable (which is very complex in every way) and teach an elegant portion of this choreography to this "must know piece" for any serious student of this art form!

Level is Intermediate

Saturday August 7th

Sha’abi 10am to 12pm

This class will offer fun & flirty movements with a translation of the lyrics! Showing us how the two go hand in hand with gestures used in the culture that one would only understand from living in Egypt!   Mohamed will  break down the techniques he utilizes which are derived from street dancing!

(Sha'abi is the name of a style of living, a style of dance, & a style of music! The word is Egyptian Arabic & refers to the poorer, commoner sections of the city. An English equivalent might be "ghetto." The name came to characterize the style of music enjoyed in such neighborhoods. The style is somewhat rougher & more playful than the rest of Egyptian pop music. Naturally, the style of dance acquired the name "sha'abi”).

Open Levels~All dancers will enjoy this and dance well at their own level!

Nubian    1pm to 3pm

Nubians are the people of Southern Egypt and Northern Sudan! With a history & traditions which can be traced to the dawn of civilization, the Nubians first settled along the banks of the Nile from Aswan. Along this great river they developed one of the oldest and greatest civilizations in Africa. Until they lost their last kingdom in 1898 (islamic Nubia).  Nubians  have preserved their own music, culture and language and you will love their gestures and dancing which is lively and so much fun!  Come prepared to sweat and work hard and have a smile while you dance !
